Shooting at Howe Park Results in Four Victims Wounded in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade Neighborhood

Sacramento authorities are working a shooting incident that occurred on the evening of April 18 at the Howe Community Park area while officers were dispersing a large unauthorized gathering of several hundred people.

Background

Sacramento County law enforcement were first called to the Arden-Arcade park around 6:30 PM on April 18 after receiving reports of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Shortly after, another report was received mentioning a possible fight happening within the park grounds.

A sheriff's airship conducted an aerial sweep but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. Even so, it was evident that a crowd of several hundred had packed into the park without official sanction.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies moved to clear the area by forming a perimeter and broadcasting over loudspeakers telling the crowd to vacate the area. Approximately 15 minutes were allowed for the gathering to break up.

As the crowd was being cleared that upwards of 20 gunshots were fired. The sudden gunfire triggered a stampede. Law enforcement swiftly started finding those who had been shot.

Four People Shot

By the time the scene was secured, four people were confirmed as gunshot victims. The four individuals — made up of one woman and three men all reportedly in their twenties — were brought to area medical facilities. Doctors and nurses reported that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one sustained moderate wounds, and one victim's wounds were minor. In a positive development, all four were expected to survive.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District also responded and aided in treating those who had been shot on location.

Physical Evidence

Most of the gunfire seemed to have happened near Cottage Way close to the Home Depot situated at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. CSI personnel found additional shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Bullet holes were identified in the metal fencing bordering the nearby Home Depot. This evidence suggested that at least one shooter had been sending rounds south from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot building and parking lot. That Home Depot location was locked down while the scene was active. CSI units alongside detectives remained on scene well into the night.

Detainees in Solano County

Intelligence received through scanner monitoring established that a Kia connected to the shooting had been stopped in Solano County California. Four suspects were taken into custody. Sacramento park shooting 2026 Law enforcement units were dispatched to Solano County to pick up those detained for formal questioning. Video that was reviewed showed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
